A spooky house for a sweet quilt

I was able to squeeze in some time on the 4th to do a little sewing. And when I say little, I mean size, not time! I paper pieced a spooky house for my doll quilt that measures less than 6″ tall…probably 5″ come to think of it. It was tedious, but rewarding as I saw it come together. It actually took me quite a bit of time to try out the different scraps and fabrics I have in grey and black to determine what would look the best. I don’t know if what I came up with is the best, but the more I look at it, the more I like it!

Spiced Coffee on Flicker was kind enough to create an image for me that includes both the house I made and my original drawing. I didn’t have the time to figure it out today! So she was super sweet and did this all on her own. (Of course, now she wants the quilt in return! …. we shall see….)

I’m happy to have finally made some sewing progress on my quilt. I keep thinking that I have all the fabrics that I need and then I find something else that might just be the icing on the cake! I just hope that I don’t go too over the top. Sometimes less is more. It’s my first time in the doll quilt swap and I feel like I need to do something really impressive…but I think that’s just my Type AAA personality trying to break through again!

I also managed to make a label for the girl on a swing quilt, so that I can get that to Mindy! I used a printable linen with my computer to make this. Of course the only downfall, and it’s a big one, is that this is not machine washable. So hear that Mindy? Don’t wash the label or it won’t say anything any more. LOL.

I backed the fabric with some interfacing and stitched a 1/4″ around the raw edge to give me an easy turning guide. Then I hand stitched it in place on the back of the quilt. I kind of like how it turned out. I did really want to do some free motion stitching little apples on it, but settled for the graphics. They are pretty cute too and I had a minimum amount of time. Guests are coming and I have to clean up the sewing room/guest room for them! 😮

We’ll see what I manage to get done in the next few days with guests here. So if you don’t hear from me in few days…well…yeah right…you’ll hear from me. I just probably won’t have anything new of my own to show! 🙂 But I have some fabric coming (I know…I can’t believe that I got more) that’s from my parents for my birthday. Oh and I bought some other fabric (it’s a sickness) to make the dress pattern that I bought for myself last month. I want to make that dress! It’s hot here and dresses are so cool to wear! Literally!

  1. I adore the house and the label came out really cute! I share your fabric sickness! Really, I'm out of control sometimes! It's especially bad lately with all the sales to make room for new stock. It's hard to resist a sale!
