To Quilt along or not? That is the question…

So I’ve been thinking for quite a while about doing a quilt along with you all. But I’m undecided…so I need some help. So should we do one and if so what should we do?

I’ve been planning on doing one using Sherbet Pips, but at this point only the precuts are available. So that means that the quilt design will need to be precut-friendly. Not a deal-breaker, but a consideration…

I’ve also fallen in love with the idea of a rainbow zig-zag quilt after I made the quilt block for Kelly that is a tiny version of that.

But I’m also open to doing whatever the majority would like to do…whether that is to quilt or not.

So I’ve put together a little survey for you all. I would love it if you could vote so I can get a better idea of what people would like. I’d do a quilt along even if just a few of us wanted to do one, so don’t let the busyness that I’m sure people will have dissuade you if you have an idea.

  1. I think you need another choice – I love to see quilt alongs but I'm rarely able to quilt along at the time it's going on – I usually save the info and go back later! Unfortunately my time is not my own (the quilt ministry calleth!) so I have to fit in personal projects at odd times! So I would love to see another quilt along, even though I probably can't commit to participate!

  2. You know, I would love to follow a quilt along, whether I actually quilt or not! 🙂 They are a geat read and resource for later…and I have done a couple of quilt alongs. 🙂 I really like Sherbet Pips and actually have charm squares and a layer cake. I was really bummed that my fav piece (the girl on the tree swing) didn't have the little girl on any of my cuts of charm squares. It is a good thing the tree is adorable!

  3. For me the pattern does not matter much but here is what does matter, I need to be able to download the pattern. I like to be able to save the pattern for a later date (sometimes life gets in my way and I can't finish/start with everyone else) and I like to print them and take them to my sewing room. So maybe a PDF file or a google file. That would be SUPER!!!

  4. I love a good quilt-along. It keeps me motivated to stay on track and get done. I'd be most likely to join if the pattern could be done with any style of fabrics (I'm still stash busting).

  5. I'm still working on my Postage Stamp Quilt Along, but love participating to see how everyone's turns out. I also have a bunch of precuts/FQ bundles to go through, so I'd like to bust those. I have a Weekends FQ, Dream On FQ & layer cake, plus tons of Nicey Jane. I'm also figuring out something to do with my Henna Garden collection.

I think the important thing is to keep the deadlines reasonable. Quilt alongs usually do 1 step per week, which sounds reasonable, but if you have anything else going on at the same time, you're way more likely to fall behind.

Can't wait to see what you pick! 🙂

  6. I voted yes, but pick something that isn't so fabric specific. I hate to say it, but I'm already over the sherbet pips. I've seen a couple of quilts recently that looked woven. That would be a fun one to do.

  7. Doesn't really matter what fabric you choose, because we can all choose whatever we have on hand, or like. Me I a shopping out of my stash. I am doing 6 quilt along's already, but I would be game to add one more to the pile. It is how I really get things done….deadlines! So come up with something cute, fun and that you like to do, and we will follow along at our pace. PDF files are great especially if you can squeeze them onto one or two pages. Can't wait to see what YOU decide on.

  8. I'm the other Ann Marie so I've become annmarie – lol! I love quilt-a-longs. Love your Neopolitan Dream or it would be fun to learn about fabric choices for a zigzag quilt. Any pattern you do would be great (but I'm not fond of appliqued bed quilts). I think many of us are trying to work from our stash so requiring a specific fabric would lose participants. I think a 2 week deadline is better than 1 week. And PDF instructions are the best as they print easily. So this is all IMHO -thanks for asking! But anything you do will be wonderful.

  9. I was looking for the option that said. "Yes I would love to do a quilt along. I'm COMPLETELY overcomitted but I want to do one anyway!"

That being said, I will join up, but you get to make all the decisions.

I would love to do a quilt along with you. I am looking at doing a quilt that looks like the whirly gig the kids blow on and they go around. Just a suggestion. If you pick the sherbet pip thing will you also post a link for those of us to order on line since some of us live a ways from a quilt store that might care them. Thanks,
    Tammara

  11. Ha ha I chose "I'm overcommitted; sorry" but I like Cindy's option. If you had it start after the DQS deadline, I'd likely join in. The rainbow zig zag is intriguing, and while I have a Sherbet Pips charm pack, I wouldn't choose that as a theme. I am with those who like to be able to quilt from their stash.

  12. I'd love to learn tips and trick from you if you host a quilt along! How about a paper piecing quilt along? maybe with the blocks shaped like a hexagon..wink wink….?
