Distractions…

So help a gal out.  I’m trying to keep myself distracted from this little Moda competition I’m in…pincushion is finished.  I think?!?  I’ll show that tomorrow.  But for now, help keep me distracted.

I’m in an on going process of keeping the blog updated.  So I’m looking for some information.

• I want to have links to all the blogs that I have been “featured” on.  ie.  did a tutorial for you, or you did an interview or whatever.  If I was on your blog, can you remind me and send me a button so I can put it on the blog?  I lost a lot of that stuff when I did the redo late last year.  Heck even if it’s not your blog and you remember me on someone’s blog, can you tell me (and bless you for remembering something like that in this huge online world!)

• I want to make sure that everyone is able to leave comments.  A few people the other day were not able to do that (and while I think that was because blogger was fiddling with the world), I want to make sure that this is not an ongoing problem.  Now obviously if you have trouble leaving a comment, then it will be tough to leave a comment about that.  So just send me an email…it’s right there in the side bar.

• Are you a no reply blogger?  I know that people talk about this a lot, but I want  you to know that I reply to EVERYONE who writes on the blog.  I just do it privately unless I really feel it should be a public answer.

Okay…I’ve been successfully distracted for about 15 whole minutes so far.  lol  And because we should never have posts without pretty pictures, here are a couple more granny squares I was working on lately in a further effort of distraction.

Distractions...

Oh and I started hand quilting my mini swoon.  I totally don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m just rolling with it. lol

  1. Oooh, I see a cute little Brrrrrr polar bear there! Love it, and you may not know what you're doing but the handquilting is looking great so far (ps. I don't know what I'm doing in that area either!!).

  2. Love the colours in the granny squares! I think I need more purple in my stash! The mini swoon is looking great! Even though you don't think you know what you're doing, you are doing it very well!!

    1. Speaking of "no reply bloggers"…lol Melissa, it takes me maybe 20 minutes to just sew…but I'm definitely NOT the fastest seamstress in the world. And I have my blocks set up in a certain order…so that takes a little longer to do.

  3. No reply necessary, but I just wanted to comment that the thing I find frustrating about No Reply everything is that if you're not a capital-b Blogger, but just a blogger, (who in my case is a capital-w WordPresser), there is no option for becoming a Reply Blogger. At the article you suggested, the author recommended that non-Blogger bloggers or just general commentariat should get a dummy blogger account that would link to our email addresses so we could get replies, but in the case of us WordPressers, that would mean never linking to our own sites, which would mean less views, etc. For me personally that's not such a big deal, I'm pretty hit and miss with my blogging anyway, but it's just not a great solution.

Maybe we should all rise up and demand that blogger let us include our email address along with our OpenID/wordpress/etc. profiles 😀

    1. That is REALLY frustrating. It's probably all about the competition between platforms but yes, make life easier on all of us and just let us link back to our own profile. I agree!

    2. I'm also a WordPress blogger, and another (and probably easier) solution would be for Blogger to have an option to sign in with Name/URL/email. Right now it's Name/URL only – if they simply gave us the option to provide the email, that would solve everything. If your browser is set to remember/autofill forms, it takes just a couple of keystrokes.

I also wish that when I click on a commenter's name, it would link to their actual blog instead of a Blogger profile. In other platforms, you can go straight to that person's blog with one click. I'm far less likely to follow a commenter to their blog when it takes two clicks and some reading in between. It may be only a few seconds, but we have terribly short attention spans when we're online.

  4. i love your yellow and purple granny square. i have a niece coming and her nursery will probably be lavender. i think i'm going to steal this color combo. don't worry– every time i get a compliment i'll tell them i stole it from you.

  5. Your granny squares are fabulous and I can't wait to see
your Swoon all quilted up. Your stitches are beautiful. :o)
Have a wonderful weekend. Sincerely, Trish
ps. There is still time to enter my give a way if you
would like to drop by. ;o) wink.

  6. How on earth do you get your blocks so perfect? Every single one you've posted is perfect — perfectly squared, perfectly colored — just perfect!
Geez, I wanna be like you when I grow up!

    1. Okay this made me lol! Thanks for the laugh. The reason I enjoy little blocks like these is because I want to take the time to make them work well and you get a lot of bang for your buck.

I will say that one of the things I do is nest my seams. That makes it easier for me to keep the blocks aligned.

  7. I love the swoon – I am thinking of making a set of pillows using the pattern. I love your hand quilting on it!

I do have a question about pillows – and maybe you won't be able to answer but I'll ask anyway! I see a lot of people doing handquilting on pillows, and I am wondering how that is done? I mean, is another piece of fabric (like muslin) added to the back so you can sew through the pillow top and another fabric. Or just sewn through the one layer of fabric? Just my curiosity. 🙂

    1. I have a whole bunch of no reply bloggers today! lol

If you are making a pillow and want a quilted top, you can either quilt through just the top and a thin layer of cotton batting or you can go ahead and make a quilt sandwich.

I prefer to quilt the top to a layer of batting and then put in a separate lining for the whole pillow with a zipper closure. I hope that makes sense.

  8. Love your granny squares and your mini swoon is going to be amazing! Good luck in the contest….I just came from voting for your sweet girl!
