Keeping Busy

Sometimes I forget that you are all not on instagram.  lol  So if you are, I apologize for the repeat pictures.  But for those who aren’t, here’s a hint at what I’ve been working on lately!

I did a big fabric pull and I’m playing with these fabrics right now.  The center print is a liberty print that I had JUST enough of and was the very last pull.  It blends all of the color ways together.  yay for amazing fabrics!!

Possibly perfect. I need to see if I have enough. The one time I was restrained with a fabric purchase

I was doing some free motion quilting this week.  I decided to play with the wood grain design.  I don’t think I’ve had a chance to use it since my mini girl quilt.  It’s definitely something that on a conventional machine is much easier for me with a SMALL piece.  You really need to be able to move the piece quickly and smoothly.  And that just doesn’t happen with the weight of a big quilt.  So while I love this look, unless I get to play on a long arm machine, I won’t be doing it unless it’s a smaller piece.

Doing wood grain free motion quilting tonight. It helps if I sing while I do it.

I made the Rapunzel dress!  Next in line for the pretty princess sew along!  I have all the photos taken but I need to edit them and get that blog post up.  But here’s a little sneak peak of a very happy girl in her new Rapunzel dress.

Rapunzal in the house!!!

And one morning in desperation I tried teaching that girl how to “sew”.  It was amusing and you can see here that we have a bit of work to do.  She of course lost the needle immediately and was more interesting in throwing the disk from the yarn attached but it was a funny little moment.  I thought you all might like seeing this three year old’s first attempt at stitching.  We can only go up from here.  lol

Her first "sewing lesson "

I hope you all are keeping busy too.  I’m SURE you are.  And I hope everyone has a lovely Easter!  We have actually had two days in a row with temperatures above the 30’s.  So it feels down right balmy!  😉

  1. I love the fabric you pulled! I just got my 5 year old all set up to embroider (with a not too sharp tapestry needle) he drew out his design and is whipped right through his TIE fighter (star wars obsessed right now). I loved seeing his enthusiasm! Your little girl looks pretty happy with her needle and thread, she looks very busy 🙂

  2. Love those fabrics! It's great when you have a stash big enough to pull fabrics out to make something! That's my excuse for buying fabric anyway…..

  3. Do they still sell sewing cards? When I was a little kid in the 60s, they sold cardboard pictures with holes prepunched, and you did sort of a connect the dots kind of thing using a shoelace. (So you got the sewing motion, but you did not need a needle.) Anyway, you could use shoelaces on your circle, then there would be no needle to lose.

  4. i know somewhere online you can print out FREE sewing cards for the wee ones! hey, she has to start somewhere! your woodgrain FMQ looks great! i'm still trying to get the hang of this one with pencil and paper before i move on to an actual quilted object!
