Accuquilt Go! Big (and a giveaway made by me!)

*the giveaway is now closed*

I’m so excited to be today’s stop on the Blog Hop for Accuquilt’s newest die cutting machine, the Go! Big.  I was honored to be asked to give this machine a try.

·        The GO! Big is AccuQuilt’s fastest cutter giving you the ability to cut two 6” wide dies side by side at the same time
·        It is safe & easy to use. It maximizes efficiency and alleviates hand and arm strain
·        All GO! Dies can be used in the GO! Big, plus there are 5 NEW GO! Big dies that are used exclusively with the GO! Big. The larger die boards allow you to cut a 12 ½” finished block with just one die.
Feel free to laugh at me, but I even filmed a little homemade video with the help of my brother (and a little less help from my daughter) on how this works!  I’m in love!!
With the Churn Dash die and cutting just the HSTs from it, I was able to get going on a fun wall hanging.
Andover Fabrics provided us with fabrics for the blog hop from their Downton Abbey collection.  But I was a bit stumped by what I wanted to do.  And then I got a little package in the mail from Art Gallery Fabrics and their Maker collection.  The two together made perfect sense to me.  All of the low volume fabrics from Maker helped balance those darker saturated colors from Downton Abbey.
And so…Manners and Manors was created.
Manners and Manors
I paired the fabrics together in high contrast combinations and laid them out in a random pattern.  Then I quilted the whole piece with three different colors and weights of thread for texture. And I LOVE that!
Manners and Manors
But HSTs alone were not enough for me and in the end, I felt it needed a bit of something extra.  So I raw edge appliqued the Dowton Abbey Manor onto the piece.  Those towers are only about a sewing machine needle wide…so it was some detailed work!
Manners and Manors
And then reaching into my stash, I finished it up with the perfect backing and binding to tie everything together.
Manners and Manors
And the end is one wall hanging perfect for the avid Downton Abbey fan measuring about 2′ x 3′.
——————————————————-
And guess what?!  I’m giving it away!
Yes.  One of you will be the lucky winner to own or gift this wall hanging to the Downton Abbey fan in your life.  I just feel like it belongs with someone who LOVES the show.  Make someone’s day or your own by entering to win!
Oh! and I’m also giving away the rest of the Downton Abbey fabric I have which includes ones you see in the quilt and some other colors like a gorgeous Blue.
To enter, simply leave a comment below.  I’d love to hear what you think about the new die cutter.  But if not, then let me know what you love about Downton Abbey.  I made it through the first season myself but never got past the 1st episode of the second season.  So share!!  About either one or both!*the giveaway is now closed*
Congratulations to the winner:
#23 Alesha Klein

I love the colors in the quilt. My husband watches the show and this would make the perfect surprise gift for his Birthday. Thank you for the chance to win such a generous giveaway. I love my Accuquilt Go also

  1. I have the smaller accuquilt and it's great for shapes like hexagons that take ages to cut! We started Downton late, when the baby was born …. So we had to then go backwards to find out what had happened in the past!

  2. Wow, what amazing decisions you made on this project. The final project is so cool. I am now contemplating that Go cutter. And while I am behind on the episodes, I have a friend who is gaga over the show. Should I win your very cool quilt, it will reside at her house.

  4. Super work on the project, love the appliqué! The cutting machine looks like it cuts project time in half. I got hooked on Downton, binged watched until I was caught up and now I watch it weekly. Thanks for the chance to win.

  5. I hardly ever watch tv, not even sure if we have downtown aired in Hungary, but I just love the quilt (you gave me some ideas 🙂 ). thanks for the chance.

  6. Hi Angela! My parents first introduced me to Downton, and I've loved the show ever since! Growing up we'd always watch shows together, and now that I'm out of the house it's so nice being able to do that again with Downton! Thanks for the opportunity!

  7. The die cutter – easy and fast with great capability. Downton Abbey – I don't watch, but my daughter does and she works for a PBS station and this would be a perfect addition to her office.

  8. I don't have the BIG but I have the Studio & I love that! I like to slide the top cover off the fabrics so that the static electricity doesn't pick the pieces up from the stack.

  9. Wow I love your little wall hanging! I so love how you added the Mansion. The new die cutter looks wonderful. I would love to have the electric one. My hands are really getting old and not working like they did when I was younger. This would be the perfect addition to my sewing world. Thanks for sharing!

  10. I'm not sure why I love Downton Abby, but I do. I hope Anna isn't in too much trouble and someone finds a real killer. Can't believe that next week is the season ender. 🙁 Thanks for the chance to win these gorgeous fabrics. I love the skyline on your quilt.

I am a huge Accuquilt fan, but just haven't justified getting the GO Big yet. I am given many, many tiny scraps. Right now my GO! Baby and smaller dies do the trick for tons of sewing fun.

  11. Wow! I would love to own one of those. Nice to be able to cut so precisely! And Downtown…how could you stand the suspense of not keeping up? You should try and catch up….you've missed the best parts! 🙂

  12. The show is a must-see for us around here. You did a great job combining those fabric lines, I have been thinking of getting some of the shirtings from the downstairs line and you are making me think I should consider the darker prints as well 🙂

  13. This is fantastic! I'm a HUGE Downton Abbey fan! Someone I know introduced it to me by giving me the first three seasons. My daughter and I power watched all of them and we were hooked. Then I bought the 4th season and power watched that to get caught up. Now we watch with everyone else on Sundays. Thanks much for your generosity. I would truly treasure this! And the extra fabric would be a huge bonus ;c) shopgirl723(at)yahoo.com

  14. Love your quilt. The extra applique of Downton Abbey really makes it. I own the Accuquilt Go, but that electric double-sized Big Go is something else. Thanks for the chance to win your giveaway.

  15. The manor is wonderful and a clever idea to give the quilt identity. First time to your blog and I enjoyed it very much. Someday I need to get myself an Accuquilt what a time saver and accuracy you can't match with a rotary cutter.
    Thanks,
    Jules

  16. I have an Accuquilt GO! cutter that I use all the time, and just love it. The Big looks great and I'm glad the existing dies work with it. I'm a big Downton Abbey fan and recently power watched several episodes of Season 5 while hand stitching the binding on my latest quilt. I love the castle on your quilt and that you used different colors and weights of thread to quilt it. Thank you for the opportunity to win the quilt and the fabric!

  17. Love your quilt. I wish I had the money for the new Accuquilt but another year maybe. I am crazy about Downton Abbey. My husband gave the set for Christmas and I have marathon watched it twice. It is an obsession. I really like the suit Rose was married in, total class.

  18. I think the GO cutters sound wonderful, but so far haven't decided to spend the money on one. Love, love, love your quilt! My aunt is a huge Downton fan and it would be a thrill to win and gift the quilt to her. She doesn't have children of her own, but she has lots of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews and she spoils all of us! I like to do special things for her when I can.

  19. looks fabulous Angela. i love the varigated quilt threads! i also only made it to the complete season 1…but i just dont watch enough TV to make it thru more…someday! thanks goodness for Netflix! i think i need more HST in my life!

  20. I love Downton, mostly for the costumes. As for the die cutter I have never felt the need for one as I quite enjoying cutting by hand. Yes I know – weird. Jenny larking at gmail dot com

  21. This acuquilt big looks great! I have the regular go and love it but this looks amazing! I love the Downton Abbey fabric collection and the the series! Thank you for the giveaway.

  22. I think your little quilt is adorable. I was actually at Accuquilt one day and they gave a demo on this new Go Big. so fun to do projects on and fun for guilds to work together.

  23. What a terrific quilt! I love the way you've combined those great Downton Abbey fabrics with other fabrics. I'm hooked on Downton Abbey–but wish (spoiler alert!) they would just let Anna and Bates have some down time! You need to give it another try!

  24. What a terrific quilt! I love the way you've combined those great Downton Abbey fabrics with other fabrics. I'm hooked on Downton Abbey–but wish (spoiler alert!) they would just let Anna and Bates have some down time! You need to give it another try!

  25. I think your wall hanging is just perfection. I really like how the castle itself has such visual impact without taking away from the overall look of the HST's. What I like best about Downton is it just transports you to that time and place so effortlessly. The costumes & location are achingly gorgeous, but I do wish some of the story lines weren't quite so dramatic and full of angst. Email is wmslro at msn dot com.

  26. I love, love, love the show! I watched your quilt come together on Instagram, and I am so excited for the winner to enjoy this cool mini! My favorite part about the show is the characters. There are so many great characters, and no shortage of plot twists and turns. The hardest part is waiting so many months in between seasons. As a new quilter, I have been working on my HSTs, and the cutter looks really handy.

  27. That is such a unique quilt, I love the textures you did with different weights in the quilting. I avoided DA for a long time, but I finally gave in and watched and got hooked! My kids and husband call it the 'snobby British show' but it grew on me. I love seeing the costumes and fabrics they use in the show.

  28. I absolutely love the Dowager Countess, Lady Violet. She gets the very best lines, and I want to be her when I grow up!!! I've just finished rewatching the first four seasons – it's an awesome show! Love your wall hanging, too – the Abbey appliqué is perfect!

  29. I've only tried smaller AccuQuilt die cutters, so it would be a dream to have this one. It would save so much time cutting out triangles and other shapes. I haven't watched Downton Abbey but hope to watch the whole series some day.

  30. The die cutter would make the whole process go so much faster. I love Downton, especially the costumes. I wish the scenes lasted longer so you could get a better look at all of the fabulous clothes. Thanks for sharing the lovely quilt with us!

That cutter is amazing! I need to start saving my pennies!

  33. I've only seen a demo on the GO so no experience with die cuts either. my 2016 Wish list now has the Accuquilt GO on it.
its of friends love the show so once again I would re
gift your gift. the HST s are fun
now that I've practice d and the extra fabric would help me create some zip pouches of tote for those fans. thankyou for sharing your beautiful work.

  34. I have the Go Baby and I think this Big Go would be great! Love the look of these big blocks. OH and my daughter is a huge fan of Downton and graduating this Spring – I would love to gift to her! thanks!

  35. An Accuquilt Go! has been on my Wish List for long time…would still love one…but the Go! BIG is soooo cool…think I might have to upgrade my Wish List! lol Your Quilt is Awesome! would be honored to win it! Thanks for the chance!

  36. I just love your wall hanging. Your work is amazing. My mother-in-law is a high Downton Abby fan, even has tea parties with her friends! She is a bit of a quilter too and would appreciate your amazing work. The die cutter looks awesome as well.

  37. I absolutely love your quilt!!! It would be perfect in my home. I also totally love Downton abbey. we've been watched it from the first season and are always eager to watch each new episode.

  38. Wow that is quicker and Big-er than my GO! I have to admit I am a Downton Abbey fan. I would love to play with the fabric and own the wall hanging.

  39. It was really fun to watch your project progress on Instagram – and I voted "yes" to adding the Downton Abbey Manor (I think it is perfect!) – what a fabulous and inspiring finish! I just started watching Season One of Downton Abbey, so I don't have an opinion quite yet – but I am enjoying it so far…

  40. I love the color contrast in your project. I am finding that I NEED a fabric cutter these days. Who knew falling would cause arthritis to settle in both thumbs. Bummer. But I like that the new Go! cutter is electric and big.

  43. I've never used a cutter before, but boy, that one will be on my Christmas list this year!
I'm a newbie to Downton Abbey, and don't know why I waited this long to watch it! I love it!!
Now, I have to get Netflix, to catch up the seasons! :o)

  44. I love the Go! Big cutter (a gift from hubby), the fabric line from Andover (I have a couple of the fat quarter bundles that I'm getting ready to cut into, your quilt (inspired interpretation), and the Downton Abbey show. All get two thumbs up!

  45. My husband and I are big fans of Downton Abbey (could't wait to see this Season so we purchased the British DVD and have watched it several times already)!!! Love your wall hanging…thanks for the sweet giveaway!

  46. What a fabulous quilt! My mom and I are both big Downton Abbey fans. We love the beauty of it – the house, the clothes, the gardens – and we're also enamored with the characters and the wonderful actors who play them.

  47. Downton Abbey!!! Yes, I'm a great fan, and the series has been showing way down in our part of the world, New Zealand. Love Maggie Smith, isn't she great. And all the fashions too.
I would love to win your Downton Abbey quilt, thanks for the chance.

  48. Looks like an amazing tool, and I love your beautiful wall hanging! I am a big Downton Abbey fan! Started watching it a couple of years ago while I was laid up after foot surgery. Looking forward to tonight's episode! I love seeing the costumes, the scenery, the castle and all the fabulous characters! Thanks so much for a chance to win your beautiful project!

  49. GORGEOUS wall hanging! I'm not a Downton Abbey fan but a friend of mine LOVES it. Honestly, I've never given it a chance. HOWEVER, she would LOVE this wall hanging! Please please please pick my number! 🙂

  50. I love Downton Abbey! It's such a great show, with amazing characters I just can't get enough of. I'm jealous of your AccuQuilt. It's on my quilting suppy wish list to own someday. Thank you for always sharing such beautiful work and words.

  51. For reasons that defy logical explanation, I love Downton Abbey despite the fact that I farm and am not waited on. Go figure! It would be such fun to win your beautiful quilt.

  52. I have a friend who would LO V E this. Not that I don't, but she is a big, big fan of the show. I really like your combination of fabrics, and the clever name you gave the quilt. Thanks for the chance to win.

  53. I love your creativity and the tribute to the show that you have captured! I watch each week to see what will happen. I love the period clothing and hair styles. Thanks for the contest

  54. I'm curious, but hesitant–I hate the idea of being tied down to purchased dies. I bought a Silhouette for paper stuff, and I really like that it will cut whatever I design on the computer. It obviously doesn't work with piecing…and I love Downton Abbey! How on earth did you cut out the abbey??
