I’m so excited to share my second Moda Bakeshop quilt! It’s appropriately (if not obviously) titled Picket Fences and I was thrilled to work with the fabric of one of my favorite set of designers, Sweetwater. Hometown is just fun and I loved searching through all of the names to find cities that are special to me.
This particular quilt is being donated to a local fundraiser for a women’s center here in South Bend. I’m thrilled that it will be shared by someone who will both love it and who is willing to donate to charity. What a win-win for this sweet quilt.
And I’m also excited to have a lovely giveaway hosted by The Fat Quarter Shop! They are generously giving one reader a petite fat quarter set of Hometown. What a fantastic way to get a taste of this line.
To enter to win this petite fat quarter bundle, I’d love if you went over to Moda Bakeshop and left me a comment on my quilt there. Then come back here and leave me a comment that you left a comment there.
For those of who really want extra chances, I’d love any phone apps that you all can recommend. As you may have gathered from my previous post, I’m quite new to the smartphone world. I would love to know what I’m missing. So if you have a suggestion for one, that gives you an extra entry. Please leave it as a separate comment.
I know that not everyone has a fancy-dancy phone. So in lieu of an app recommendation, please feel free to share any other recommendations you have! lol I’ll let you all decide what that might be about. But let’s keep it clean. 😉 (Unless you’re Lynne and you’re going to suggest some Afternoon Delight).
okay, so i'll be first at both places! This is a great design Angela, and I love this fabric line.
awesome quilt Angela!
Great quilt and I just left a comment over at the Bakeshop.
I don't have a fancy phone but I thought there might be an app for Kona colors. Hmmmm, I know there is one for Bazzill scrapbook papers, maybe I was just dreaming of the Kona color chart app. Well THEY should have that one (as well as Moda Bella colors).
I left a comment on your beautiful quilt! Thanks for the opportunity!!
Great design love the fence cute
I don't have a smart phone…LOL…but my Sister In Law loves Facetime..and I have used it on my ipad to chat with her face to face (she lives 1900+ miles away)…
Words with Friends is a fun and addicting game.
I left ya a comment over at the bakeshop! It's a very cute pattern Angela.
Lovely design Angela! I really like how the lines extend above the points of the fence. I recommend the quilt calculator website-online not phone, that I saw at Leila's where the orchids grow!http://vrya.net/quilt/flash/QuiltCalc_Loader.html
OK, I posted over at Moda. Also downloaded the pattern. It's very cool!
Left you some <3 over at the bake shop!
Have posted a comment on Moda Bake Shop- great quilt! I used to love the TV show "Picket Fences" too!
As for phone apps my faves are:
Angry Birds (all 3 versions)
Alchemy–you mix elements to create new ones, over 370 from just Earth, Air, Water & Fire
Ant Smashers–great kid game
Jo-Ann–you can save coupons to your wallet and use them over and over and over and over before they expire
Tweet Deck
Google Reader
Robert Kaufman Quilt Calc
Barcode Scanner
Zombie Booth
Those get used ALL the time on my phone. I'll never have another regular phone, love my smart phone too much!
I have a free app for playing Suduko which I really love!
I left the comment there 😀
Such a lovely quilt…
I would recommend instagram , an application for photo taking and sharing 😀
Love your quilt 😀
Left a comment there ;D
I left a comment there! Very clever design!!
I don't have a 'Fancy Dancy' phone either but if I had I'd love to have the Cozi Calendar 😀
Left you a comment- such a cute quilt, btw.
Great quilt Angela!
I left a comment at MBS!
I know nothing about phone apps!! but I can heartily recommend making(and drinking) damson gin!!
I left a comment over there, but I also want to tell you here how amazing this design is. I love how innovative you are with your quilts that you come up with, both pieced like these and also the mini quilts that you have dreamed up. (I also mentioned on the MBS post that I had been thinking up a picket fence block, but you definately outdid me with an entire quilt.) Keep up the great designs!
As far as apps go, I'm finding that I don't really care for most of them. The one I use the most is for eBay, which does make it easier to get in a last minute bid. I do also use VCAST Song ID (Verizon only, I would guess), to help with naming songs that play on the radio and I don't know who sings them. The RSS feed option that came with my phone doesn't work most of the time, so I did download the Google Reader app, but sometimes it won't show posts as they are on the blogs. I have only downloaded free apps, so I'm sure there are some good ones you pay for. I just don't have the money in my budget.
Great Quilt! Just left a comment at Moda too!
As for phone apps…..I love Genius Scan. It takes a picture (and not in a jpg file, instead of scanning it) and you can email it!
It looks amazing and perfect fabric too.
Love your picket fence quilt and your tutorial at the Bake Shop. Left a comment there.
I am totally out of the loop on smartphones and apps. But here is a recommendation for a website I love…retailmenot.com They have coupons & codes for so many places to shop. I thought everyone knew about this site but lately I've mentioned it to a couple people who said they never heard of it.
I left a comment over at Moda Bake Shop!
I don't have a smart phone but if they don't have apps for fabric or quilts or even the fat quarter shop they should! Love the quilt!
Love the new tutorial and can't wait to try it out. I left a comment over and thanks for a chance to win some fabric from this adorable line.
rhianneholmes(at)hotmail(dot)com
I love the new tutorial! I left a comment in the bakeshop. Great design!
As for apps…do you have Words with Friends and Hanging With Friends? Those get the most use on my phone!
I've just come from MBS – Great tutorial. I just love the picket fence detailing. It would make a great moving to a new home gift too!
What a perfect combination – picket fences and Hometown. I love it!
I have an app i love on my iPad that you could probably get for your phone. It's called calorie counter and allows me to record everything I eat and look up the nutritional value of pretty much any food, including restaurant meals.
Just left a comment over on the tutorial. I love the quilt design!
My suggestion is to have a Crunchy bar with your next cup of coffee or tea. Yummo! (I have no idea about smart phones!)
Sorry…forgot to add that I left a comment over at MBS.
I left a comment at MBS. Great design & my favorite fabric!
I left a comment on MBS. I love the quilt!!!
what a great quilt angela! mbs is next in my reader, so commenting there next!
recommendations…Hunger Games to read, candy corn to eat, and Miscellany to buy!
My favorite phone app (Android) is Barcode Scanner. It allows me to scan the bar code of an item at the store and then it will tell me what prices the local stores carry it at and even online stores. This really came in handy when shopping for a TV (once I figured out which one I wanted). Sears, Wal-Mart, etc all came up on the list and I didn't have to store to store. I also showed it to the clerk because they price match….got my deal!!!
I left you a comment at the Moda Bakeshop website. What an awesome idea for a quilt. Great job!!!
Ill be writing this at moda bakeshop in a minute… but ahhhhh I love this quilt design! I love the minimal amount of solid used and the picket fence is just fantastic! Seriously, lovely, def. going on my to-do list… and not the "before I die" list but the more recent one haha.
Love the quilt, left a comment over at the Bake shop.
Angry Birds is also fun to play on your phone!
Suggestion: Dessert before dinner is the best way to help with portion control! You may be so full from ice cream, cake, etc. that you only want to eat the recommended serving and therefore avoid overeating – genius! 🙂
… this is my justification for having frozen yogurt (and WAY too many toppings) last night before my dinner 🙂
Left you a comment at MBS – great quilt!
popped over to MBS…..I really just love this quilt to pieces! I cannot wait to try it…..and hometown is such a great line, I am really excited for this as a project for me!
BTW – my 'fancy shmancy' phone is a Razr – it lets me answer the phone, make calls, take pictures (just in case) so you can see I haven't gotten into the new tech world. Good luck.
I left a short and sweet comment on MBS. Such a cute design and perfect fabric for it!
I've got an OLD Blackberry so I don't have too much on it, but I couldn't tell you how many times I've used the Google Maps app on there. I also love the Pandora app on my iPad – any variety of music.
Oh my gosh, Angela! That picket fence is the cutest thing ever!!! I have a quilt wall in my house where this quilt would look wonderful. It's an ingenious design. I read your directions and love the mix of techniques. (I left that in my comment there.)
I'm eager to come back and read the app suggestions too.
Left a comment at Moda bake shop.
I left you a note over at Moda Bake shop. Love your picket fence. It really makes you think of home which is a great use for Home Town.
I left a comment on your beautiful quilt. It is great.
What a neat idea! They so go together! Thank you for sharing!
I ran onto Hometown the other day and was totally in love with it! I'd love to win some! Your quilt is great! I left you a comment….

Such a cosy quilt – perfect for this time of year – left a wee comment at MBS too!
I went to the Moda Bake Shop and did some spreadin' of love. I love that it is a baby quilt. It's gonna be a hit! I especially love the quilting on the fence part!
I like Angry Birds. My friend's little boy learned his alphabet by playing it. If you play Scrabble, the Scrabble dictionary application is pretty helpful too.
I left you a comment at the Moda Bake Shop. Love your quilt – as I said there, it's a perfect marraige of pattern and fabric.
What a lovely quilt! I left a comment at the Moda Bake Shop. 🙂
As to phone apps… my hubby and I have always loved Skee-Ball. So fun! 🙂
One other recommendation is one of my favorite recipe sites: http://www.smittenkitchen.com
I just got a 3G Blackberry (wow, don't I sound like I know what I mean?), and haven't tried any apps out yet, so can't provide any help in that area. Sorry! I'm just figuring this out myself. But I'll sure be back to see what others tell you.
Great idea for a quilt. I'm off to share it with my sister now.
As for recommendation… We only just got a cell and it is far from fancy. I'm still trying to figure this one out so I am really quite of no help for you.
I can tell you though an app that I did see… A confessional app made by a Catholic priest. It got mixed reviews.
Left you a comment over on Bakeshop. Thanks for a great pattern and for a chance to win some yummy Hometown!
Love this quilt Angela! As a said over at the Bakeshop, I've been looking for something to make for a charity auction as well.

I left you a fun comment over there–I really love this quilt Angela! Nicely done!
And although I don't use any phone Apps, my friend Mary wrote a little round-up of iPhone and Android sewing apps here: http://www.craftbuds.com/sewing-apps-for-iphone-and-android/
I left you a comment over on Moda Bake Shop… the quilt is precious!
I left a well-deserved comment at MBS! This is one pattern I will definitely use!
Lovely design. very clear.
I did not know you could have google reader on your phone! That is one app I just downloaded.
I like Dragon Fly, Jewels Delux, Yahtz Me and Pinball Delux…along with Facebook and Kobo…oh and Jango.

Great quilt! I just left a comment at Moda Bake Shop!
I'm a Words with Friends addict!!!
i'd definitely recommend freeappaday – lets you know what app that is usually not free, is free for the day!
I recommend Pandora- my fav app!! Next in line would be the Joann's app- gives you lots of coupons you can use WITH the mailed coupons- the more coupons the merrier 🙂 Have fun!
Left you a comment- this reminds me of home 🙂 – the fence not the fabric 🙂
I left a comment on MBS. Great design, lovely quilt!
I left a comment on MBS… 🙂
My phone is not a smartphone…more of a 'dumb'phone! My advice…never order a phone on Ebay 🙂
I left a comment over at Moda Bake Shop and I love this quilt tutorial!
I don't know this for a fact as I don't own a smartphone, but I heard you get get a Joann Fabric app that gets you coupons on your phone. I think it's correct as I saw someone checking out in front of me flashing her phone for the clerk!
I left you a comment at Moda Bake Shop and the tutorial makes the quilt look like a breeze.
I love the app, AroundMe. I can search for the closest store or restaurant if I'm having a particular craving. I also love Mary's idea about the Joann Fabric app. I'm getting it now!

I don't own a smart phone myself, but a few months ago I read about a quilter's calculator app that sounded great. Best wishes with that new fangled contraption of yours.

Love the quilt! Left you a comment at the bakeshop!
Just left props on MBS for you!
Now onto the whole phone issue. I had had a non-smart phone for years before switching to a Droid in June. I hate that I have to charge it every 1.5 days, but it really does have a lot of functionality. Nowadays, you have to pay for a quality phone, but amazon sells pretty up-to-date smart phones for one penny if you sign a new two year contract. My phone would have cost several hundred dollars at verizon, but I was psyched to get it for a penny. It already came with a good amount of apps. Of the ones I added myself, I especially like Cardio Trainer because it tracks the time, distance, etc. of your runs with GPS. I haven't found many quilting apps though.
Congrats on your recipe feature, I left a comment there :o)
I have a fancy phone, but it's the work one, and they've banned downloads onto it – meanies! My neighbour at work has his own personal one (which he keeps trying ot persuade me to shell out for too!) and is hooked on Angry Birds, Twitter and lots of little gaming apps which you probably have no interest in whatsoever (neither do I incidentally, I just get no choice about listening to it ;o) )
I just left a comment at MBS. I love having tutorials there for a novice like me. Thank you for your tutorial.
I left a comment for you over on Moda Bake Shop.
I don't have a fancy phone but my husband does- I really like the weather.com app for a quick check while traveling. We have also found being able to check in for airline flights by phone helpful.
Love you quilt – have left a comment at the MBS post.
Cute quilt – left a comment at MBS post – around number 98
Good tutorial! alternate email mlwright29(at)hotmail(dot)com
My advice: buy the replacement insurance for the smart phone if it is very expensive – worth the just in case coverage.
I left a comment on Moda Bakeshop and love the design and of course Sweetwater Hometown Fabrics line – it's one of my favorites:)

I'm not much into apps but really use the Transportation Page for Seattle to see how traffic is or isn't flowing. So I go to the browser, find the page I want and then instead of bookmarking the page I add it to the homescreen and can automatically call it up so I can see where traffic is backed up when headed to and from work:)

Love this idea!! I left a comment at Moda too!
That is an adorable quilt. I left you a comment over at the bake shop.
I want a smart phone! It is starting to seem like the whole world has one, except me. LOL! I recommend to live life to the fullest and enjoy yourself. Cheesy, but still true. 🙂
I absolutely adore the Hometown collection!! 😀 Gorgeous quilt, I absolutely love the picket fence idea!
What a perfect idea! I left a comment over at MBS – thanks so much for sharing this quilt with us! 🙂
I LOVE your new quilt!! I left a comment on MBS, congrats! I have a question for you: I'm thinking of using this pattern for a quilt for my mother, but i would make it larger than crib size. how many more charms and "fence" fabric would you think I'd need for a lap sized quilt?
Also, I don't have a fancy phone, but a friend of mine does and she has posted about her favorites apps. Here is the link: http://inashoe.com/2011/04/the-best-android-apps-for-moms/
Hope this help you!
I left a comment on Moda Bake Shop. The picket fence design is great. The quilting is a great way to use a home sewing machine to quilt.
linda@arkademedia.com
@Jennifer D – It's a pretty easy pattern to enlarge. The current size is approximately 45" x 60" – which is great for a toddler bed. The rows finish at 4.5" wide and 2" wide…so just figure out how large a lap quilt you need and add up more rows to increase the length. To increase the width, you can easily just add charms across the top, but you may want to look at the proportions of your new size to see whether the fence should be the larger part. 😉 Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions!
Cute quilt! Love Hometown! Thanks for the giveaway! I stopped over on Moda bake shop:)..Jackie@Pacitti.us
Left a comment on moda bake shop…. like I said: This is soooo super cute!
As for phone apps, I love Facebook and Words with Friends! I'm pretty busy with work and going to grad school full-time, so Words with Friends winds me down at the end of the day. 🙂
Oh — and Around Me is another really cool app! It uses your GPS location to determine the closest restaurants or gas stations or whatever!
And Flixster is awesome too! It uses your GPS location to show you what movies are showing near you. 🙂
Gorgeous quilt Angela! I left a comment over at the bakeshop too!rebecca.bird@clear.net.nz
i am in love with the "Hometown" fabric line. i left you a little comment love over at MBS under flquiltchic@gmail.com. i love your featured quilt. it's adorable. thanks for a great giveaway.

I left a comment on Moda Bakeshop! Great quilt pattern! Thank you for the giveaway!
I left a comment at the Bakeshop. Love the pattern! Looking forward to trying it.
Love the Netflix app. It's not earth-shattering or anything, but I don't have a tv in the room where I quilt, so sometimes I prop up my iPhone and stream old tv shows while I sew.
I love this quilt – left you a comment at MBS 🙂
I have a few news apps that I use to keep up-to-date (BBC and WSJ and NYTimes – there are others that you can find for free). Not quite in the same vein of games etc others have mentioned (sorry if it's TMI!) but one I find useful and could be for other women is called FMC, which helps track your cycle. It's free and well designed, easy to use, etc.
visited your quilt, loved your quilt, want your quilt … i would love to hire you to make me one … gorgeous work … darlene
Great quilt design!
Another cute tutorial to add to my growing list of projects and I left a comment on MBS.
On my iPod I have ShopShop for lists, Flickr & Pinterest.
On my HTC Android phone I have Angry Birds, Yahoo Mail & Google Maps.
Both have Facebook, Robert Kaufman Quilter's Calc, Joanns, Skype, Weather Channel, TextPlus for free texting, Shazam for identifying music, TV Guide, MS Tag Reader, Pandora & my banking app.
All of mine are free. I haven't gotten up the nerve to buy any yet. At least that way if I find out I don't like it I didn't waste any money. 😉
this is my *not-a-phone* comment; i don't have a cool phone, just a *regular* phone … so, here's some advice: "Four things you can't recover: The STONE after the throw, The WORD after it's said, The OCCASION after its missed, the TIME after it's gone." and don't forget the email after it's sent (beeen there, done that bad boy!)
I left a comment on Moda Bake Shop. Great quilt!
My son has a neat app that's a Bible concordance. So helpful!
