Hey all,
You know that I’ve been interested more and more in embroidery right? Well, I’ve been making a little progress. I’ve tried to take some of your advice and then plow ahead. I found a set of quirky but hopefully not too cutesy reindeer for some kind of Christmas something and I’m working my way along…I’m on my third reindeer. I’ll admit that I’m pretty much only using a backstitch at this point because that’s all I’ve figured out. (I haven’t looked at the online tutorials yet). But I do think I pulled off a couple of french knots, and really, no one is here to tell me differently. 😉 My filling stitches need definite work, but they’re okay…until I look at a “real” embroiderer’s work. lol

ETA: A number of you seem interested in where I got the patterns.  I bought this set at my local Joann’s but I don’t see it on their site.  This is the package and I noticed that an Etsy shop is selling one…although I’m sure you can find them in all kinds of places. 😉 oh and I’m using a dmc perle cotton size 8 in three colors.

    Hmmm, reindeer. I'm not sure how this would work but I was thinking it would be cute to make a Santa bag with reverse applique circles where the reindeer are showing through each circle. Sort of like Santa taking his reindeer pals with him while he's delivering toys in the house!

    Your backstitch is looking mighty fine Angela. I might make a 4-paned Christmas pillow with those adorable reindeer, or a long narrow wall-hanging for a door? And I had a look at a real live copy of the Modern Blocks book last night at my VMQG meeting and all of your blocks are so faboo!!!!

    This may surprise you, but I am a follower of your blog. You could make a reindeer block and place it strategically somewhere.

    I think a Christmas quilt would be cute, especially if you're going to make all the reindeer! Also, your fill stitches look good, what kind of thread/number of strands are you using? I find that using a Perle cotton or an extra strand of thread gives a nice look to the fillers.

    I love those reindeer!! They are so cute!
    Prob won't work for you if you want them all together (depends how big they are I guess!) but I've recently been thinking about making a hot water bottle cover for a friend… one side xmas themed and one side not 🙂

    I am still following…didn't get lost at all. I think your reindeer would make a sweet pillow. I would say placemats too but they are likely to get ruined that way.

    Well there's def too much work on them to use them on something that would get too dirty! How about a couple of skinny wall hangings with a big santa and sleigh in the middle?? If you did three separate ones and hung them side by side it would be freaking adorable. Or make another long skinny, horizontal one of Santa in his sleigh and hand they around and over a door frame! So maybe as you leave your front door or some other prominant place.

    I just LOVE Dancer! 🙂 If I were doing those, I'd find a way to hang them somewhere they were really noticeable and maybe line them up with a big sleigh.

    Would it be too ambitious to turn them into an advent calendar type thing? Too many reindeer, you say? Then, I'd throw them together with some scrappy Christmas fabric and turn it into a wall hanging or something! They are too cute to hide.

    I think you should make a pillow because they are so darn useful and you can always make space for the seasonally. Easy! And, you could always hang your empty pillow on the wall, but you probably can't stuff your wall hanging and put it on the couch!

    I'm drooling over this giveaway because everyone says to try Cosmos thread and AMH fabric to stitch on? It doesn't get much better.
    I would make a string of banners for your fireplace or elsewhere in the house. It would be adorable. Your stitches look great.

    I think that they would make adorable tea towels, you know the kind NO ONE are allowed to use ….but I do spend most of my time in the kitchen when I am not sewing so that is where I would see them most. They are great1

    I think they would be really cute as door handle pillows. I've got some that are stitched on one side and velvety material on the back with ribbon for a handle. I guess they'd be considered ornaments. They'll be sweet regardless of what you choose to do!

    You could use each one in a patchwork stocking or make them into a bunting of some kind…those seem particularly popular right now. Whatever you do it'll be darling with all those fun guys! 🙂

    I love your reindeer! I especially think your fill stitches work on the scarves because they give them a knitted look. I would make them into a wall hanging and would love to know where you found the pattern.

    After thinking a bit about it, I can also see them as a banner with a funky Santa leading the way.

    I follow your blog. Your reindeer are so cute. And your stitches are so even – way to go girl. I am a born again embroiderer for about a year now & mine don't look that good. Those reindeer would look awesome gussied up with some borders & hanging as a banner on a mantle or across a doorway.     It sounds so close when you put it in days! I think some simple frames from ikea wrapped in Christmas wraping paper would be cute. Pop these in and bada bing bada boom! There's a tutorial flowing around pinterest with a map being used instead of paper.

    What about a Reindeer pennant banner thingie? You know, each one hanging along a strip. You could put in on the mantel (that looks wrong, but I looked it up!) or on the wall, the fridge….

    I've been a subscriber to your blog for a while and just revealed myself as a follower too. I'd make a vertical wall hanging. One that would fit nicely beside the front door.     I had two ideas- if you have a young'un around, a small book with these as the pages would be great to have to bring out every year with the tree, and speaking of the tree, these would make a cute tree scarf or a table runner for the hallway and put the christmas cards there. Also a wallhanging with some nice holly fabric for sashing and fussycut a few to sew overlapping into the deer squares – or candy cane fabric.

    What to do with those reindeer…. hmm… what about a table runner or place mats? Or a runner to go on your hutch, piano, or other table? A wall hanging or door hanging would be nice too.

    How about framing your lovely work in embroidery hoops. Finish with an embellishment of braid or red, white or green ric rac or braid..or anything you like to finish the edges or rub with a gold paint for a simpler effect and hang for a Christmas feature.

    i think i like the idea of a holiday garland/banner…or a tree skirt would be cute…or even a table scarf for a side table or the middle of a decorative table cloth…so many things you can do! i am a new follower and i really like your blog. 🙂

    The reindeers are adorable!! I think you're doing a great job!! A few years ago my redwork group did snowmen and our blocks were about the same size. Made mine into a wall hanging with sashing and a small border. You could even put some in a tablerunner. Keep on.. Practice makes perfect. hehe.

    I think your little reindeer would be cute if sewn into gift bags. OR you could make ornaments out of them (but they might a bit too big for that). What about a table runner? If you put insul bright in it you could use it as a hot pad during the holidays. The possibilities are endless.

    I'm thinking either 1 big pillow with these sewn together in a grid OR several cute teeny pillows that you can sprinkle around your holiday decor. I love little decorations that don't take up much space. Cute job and great stitching! 🙂
