Resistance is Futile

You may or may not have noticed one of the latest quilting pattern crazes around the internet world…Granny Squares. Yes, we have all been struck silly with the power that is a simple block full of tiny squares. I resisted for forever (so it seems! it was probably more like a month) and finally decided that if I was thinking about a quilt pattern this much that I just needed to give in and do it.

And I’m soooo happy I did!

Granny Squares

I just have a few blocks sewn so far, but I love it. They are all from scraps and some left over linen. I’m sewing in faith that I will have enough linen for at least the blocks. Probably not all of the sashing, but maybe. I’m making this quilt for Caitlyn’s room at the new house. I haven’t totally decided what size it will be…I’m just going to enjoy it.

There are some gorgeous examples of granny square quilts out there…I love the ones where the blocks seem to be floating on the quilt. There is just something sooo charming about these. I don’t know. I love everyone I see. I’ve got it bad. There’s a group on flickr devoted just to granny squares, I ♥ Granny Squares, and The Old Red Barn group is doing a quilt along for them right now if you are looking for inspiration or directions. There are some different ways to do this…but all of them are fun!

I’m having so much fun picking out the fabrics for this! And it’s making me go through my scraps again which is always a good thing. They are getting out of control once again and I needed to make something with them. And I may or may not be adding to them by cutting into my stash for this quilt as well. 😉

Come on…I’ve got to do something to distract myself from obsessing over pincushions!!

  1. Those are great! I too have been thinking about jumping on the Granny Square train. I love the look of the colors set up against the linen – I want to start quilting more with linen but I've yet to find a good online source.

  2. O cute blocks! My daughter-in-law just did a quilt in aqua and orange and at first I thought 'yuck', but it's soooo pretty! Shame on me 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

  3. I absolutely love the colors you are using in your blocks. I'm going to do some research about Granny Squares…I can feel myself falling in love….Happy sewing!

  4. Your blocks are beautiful! I'm having trouble resisting, but I probably won't get to start my version until after the move and the wedding. I'll live vicariously through you and others until then!
