Accuquilt Go! Big (and a giveaway made by me!)

*the giveaway is now closed*

I’m so excited to be today’s stop on the Blog Hop for Accuquilt’s newest die cutting machine, the Go! Big.

I was honored to be asked to give this machine a try.

      • The GO! Big is AccuQuilt’s fastest cutter giving you the ability to cut two 6” wide dies side by side at the same time
      • It is safe; easy to use. It maximizes efficiency and alleviates hand and arm strain
      • All GO! Dies can be used in the GO! Big, plus there are 5 NEW GO! Big dies that are used exclusively with the GO! Big. The larger die boards allow you to cut a 12 ½” finished block with just one die.

Feel free to laugh at me, but I even filmed a little homemade video with the help of my brother (and a little less help from my daughter) on how this works!  I’m in love!!

With the Churn Dash die and cutting just the HSTs from it, I was able to get going on a fun wall hanging.

Andover Fabrics provided us with fabrics for the blog hop from their Downton Abbey collection.  But I was a bit stumped by what I wanted to do.  And then I got a little package in the mail from Art Gallery Fabrics and their Maker collection.  The two together made perfect sense to me.  All of the low volume fabrics from Maker helped balance those darker saturated colors from Downton Abbey.

And so…Manners and Manors was created.\

I paired the fabrics together in high contrast combinations and laid them out in a random pattern.  Then I quilted the whole piece with three different colors and weights of thread for texture. And I LOVE that!

But HSTs alone were not enough for me and in the end, I felt it needed a bit of something extra.  So I raw edge appliqued the Dowton Abbey Manor onto the piece.  Those towers are only about a sewing machine needle wide…so it was some detailed work!

And then reaching into my stash, I finished it up with the perfect backing and binding to tie everything together.

And guess what?!  I’m giving it away!

Yes.  One of you will be the lucky winner to own or gift this wall hanging to the Downton Abbey fan in your life.  I just feel like it belongs with someone who LOVES the show.  Make someone’s day or your own by entering to win!

Oh! and I’m also giving away the rest of the Downton Abbey fabric I have which includes ones you see in the quilt and some other colors like a gorgeous Blue.

<b>To enter, simply leave a comment below.  I’d love to hear what you think about the new die cutter.  But if not, then let me know what you love about Downton Abbey.  I made it through the first season myself but never got past the 1st episode of the second season.  So share!!  About either one or both! *the giveaway is now closed*

      Congratulations to the winner:

I love the colors in the quilt. My husband watches the show and this would make the perfect surprise gift for his Birthday. Thank you for the chance to win such a generous giveaway. I love my Accuquilt Go also

  1. What a terrific quilt! I love the way you've combined those great Downton Abbey fabrics with other fabrics. I'm hooked on Downton Abbey–but wish (spoiler alert!) they would just let Anna and Bates have some down time! You need to give it another try!

  3. I think your wall hanging is just perfection. I really like how the castle itself has such visual impact without taking away from the overall look of the HST's. What I like best about Downton is it just transports you to that time and place so effortlessly. The costumes & location are achingly gorgeous, but I do wish some of the story lines weren't quite so dramatic and full of angst. Email is wmslro at msn dot com.

  4. The Big Go is on my Christmas wishlist! Love Downton Abbey show, both my husband and I. We record it each week and while eating dinner can catch up on the episodes.

  5. I love, love, love the show! I watched your quilt come together on Instagram, and I am so excited for the winner to enjoy this cool mini! My favorite part about the show is the characters. There are so many great characters, and no shortage of plot twists and turns. The hardest part is waiting so many months in between seasons. As a new quilter, I have been working on my HSTs, and the cutter looks really handy.

  6. That is such a unique quilt, I love the textures you did with different weights in the quilting. I avoided DA for a long time, but I finally gave in and watched and got hooked! My kids and husband call it the 'snobby British show' but it grew on me. I love seeing the costumes and fabrics they use in the show.

  7. Hi Angela! My parents first introduced me to Downton, and I've loved the show ever since! Growing up we'd always watch shows together, and now that I'm out of the house it's so nice being able to do that again with Downton! Thanks for the opportunity!

  8. I absolutely love the Dowager Countess, Lady Violet. She gets the very best lines, and I want to be her when I grow up!!! I've just finished rewatching the first four seasons – it's an awesome show! Love your wall hanging, too – the Abbey appliqué is perfect!

  9. I've only tried smaller AccuQuilt die cutters, so it would be a dream to have this one. It would save so much time cutting out triangles and other shapes. I haven't watched Downton Abbey but hope to watch the whole series some day.

  10. The die cutter would make the whole process go so much faster. I love Downton, especially the costumes. I wish the scenes lasted longer so you could get a better look at all of the fabulous clothes. Thanks for sharing the lovely quilt with us!

  11. This is fantastic! I'm a HUGE Downton Abbey fan! Someone I know introduced it to me by giving me the first three seasons. My daughter and I power watched all of them and we were hooked. Then I bought the 4th season and power watched that to get caught up. Now we watch with everyone else on Sundays. Thanks much for your generosity. I would truly treasure this! And the extra fabric would be a huge bonus ;c) shopgirl723(at)yahoo.com

  21. It was really fun to watch your project progress on Instagram – and I voted "yes" to adding the Downton Abbey Manor (I think it is perfect!) – what a fabulous and inspiring finish! I just started watching Season One of Downton Abbey, so I don't have an opinion quite yet – but I am enjoying it so far…

  22. I love the color contrast in your project. I am finding that I NEED a fabric cutter these days. Who knew falling would cause arthritis to settle in both thumbs. Bummer. But I like that the new Go! cutter is electric and big.
