Aprons and things

In other sewing adventures, I’ve signed up for the savvy seasons swap over at Flickr.  I didn’t need another swap I know…but I’m sort of getting in the Christmas mood already and I wanted an excuse to make some Christmas things. (Other than my reindeer embroidery)  I have a fabulous secret partner whose taste I hope I have nailed.  Eeek!  Oh well if not!

One of the things that I have made for her so far is the Emmeline Apron.  This is one of my very favorite apron patterns and I think the first sewing pattern I bought online.  Gasp!  What do you mean you can buy patterns online?  The shock!  The disbelief!  Yup…I’ve come a long way.  I used to not buy fabric online either. 😉

It’s not a perfect pattern but it’s awfully darn cute.  I’ve made it before and really love it, except for the halter neck…it’s too big for me.  So, not being able to measure the person who is getting this apron, I opted to switch the neck tie into two separate pieces that tie at the neck.  Now fully adjustable.  The apron is two sided and the bodice can be a different fabric from the skirt…so that’s what I opted for this time.  LOVE.

I’ve been itching to use that Christmas fabric ever since I got it last year.  It was a little hard to find in this colorway at the time…although maybe it’s been restocked places.  I don’t know.  It’s an Alexander Henry print and called Merry Moderns I believe.  I was so happy to find such a perfect way to showcase the fabric. The bodice is a Riley Blake Christmas fabric I believe and the polka dots are from who knows what company…they’re a polka dot. 😉

I made the other side less traditionally Christmasy so that it can be worn all year round.  A little bit of Neptune for the skirt which I hope my partner will enjoy.  These colors are still red, green and aqua, but less obviously a Christmas design.  So I hope she gets lots of wear out of the apron.

Side by side, the apron is a temptation for me to keep…but I’ll happily give it away to someone who will love it.  And there is still more to come with this swap.  Maybe a couple more items.

I think this is the nicest Emmaline I have ever seen! I adore that christmas print, it looks so "mad men" on you 🙂
