A glimpse at 2011

Am I too late?  It’s already 2012!  But we’ve been running around like crazy and I haven’t had a chance to sit down at my computer. (traveling 2 hours for a one night to do with friends with a two year old = definite LACK of sleep) But once I hopped online I realized that so many were writing introspective and reflective posts about the past year and all of their accomplishments.  Hmm… that sounds like a lot of work to this sleep deprived mother, but I like to play along.  Plus I think it is good to take a moment and reflect on what I HAVE done because too often I focus on what I have yet to accomplish.   So I put together this little mosaic of some of the items that I have made this year.  No, it’s not entirely comprehensive…no, it’s not the most impressive one I have see out there.  But yes, they are all mine.

A glimpse at 2011

I’ve tried to spend more sewing time this year making things other than quilts.  Which is great because there is more immediate gratification than you get with a quilt…but somehow I always still have a quilt going.  So I think I’ve just managed to increase my project numbers.  Oh well. 😉  We won’t begin to talk about how many projects are currently going.

I was also published for the first time this year!  What a fun treat.  I was in the 101 Patchworks Magazine and the 99 Modern Blocks Book. (Hmm…I need to find something with 100 in the title and get into that!)  Plus I had my first and second (but never the last) Moda Bakeshop Quilts.  Trust me when I say that all of that is still very surreal to me.  But I feel so blessed for those opportunities.

But more than anything, this year has been marked by our little family’s move 1000 miles from New Orleans back to South Bend.  To say that has been a change is like saying the sun is hot.  True, but understated. 😉  The great news is that in 12 days we should be closing on our new house here!  We’ve been making due in temporary housing while we figured out where we should live.  And in God’s own time as always, we have finally found our home.

(We even managed to sneak in a picture in front of the new house)

  1. I was reading all the blogs on New years that were so good, I ended up linking to them as they seemed to say what I wanted to, only better.
It certainly does get you thinking though, and you're right, we rarely think back to what we've accomplished. It's a good thing to do.
I like your mosaic too. The zigzag quilt is beautiful in the middle.

  2. I'm impressed that you squeezed in a roundup. It was fun to see some of the projects that have popped up since I have been reading and others that are new to me. Congrats on all of your accomplishments and happy new year!

  3. Happy new year to you :o) Love your mosaic of makes (I may or may not have spent a ridiculous 3 hours pulling my retrospective post together this evening, longer than it took to make a number of the projects o.O) and HUGE congrats on all your published achievements :o)

  4. Can't wait to see all the great things you come up with this year! Congrats on the new house. I'm sure it will feel so good to finally get settled.

  6. South Bend as in just a few hours away from Seattle? I have a friend there. Very big change for you, but much nicer weather 🙂
Your mosaic looks great, and congrats on the house. And I just love the plans for 2012.

  7. @Shelitha2 – Do you mean the one with all the rows of different circles? That was row robin quilt and I only pieced the double wedding ring row. I think I blogged about that one back in May or so. It was called Circulation, so you can search for it that way.

  8. I remember watching most of these projects grow, I love pretty much all of them. I look forward to another year of reading your blog and seeing what beautiful things you will make.

  9. Congratulations on your new home. I know it will wonderful for you to feel settled. I've SO enjoyed reading your blog and all that you've shared this past year. Hope your year is filled with many blessings!
