Picket Fences – A New Quilt for Moda Bakeshop!

*the giveaway is now closed*

Picket Fences

I’m so excited to share my second Moda Bakeshop quilt! It’s appropriately (if not obviously) titled Picket Fences and I was thrilled to work with the fabric of one of my favorite set of designers, Sweetwater. Hometown is just fun and I loved searching through all of the names to find cities that are special to me.

Picket Fences

This particular quilt is being donated to a local fundraiser for a women’s center here in South Bend. I’m thrilled that it will be shared by someone who will both love it and who is willing to donate to charity. What a win-win for this sweet quilt.

And I’m also excited to have a lovely giveaway hosted by The Fat Quarter Shop! They are generously giving one reader a petite fat quarter set of Hometown. What a fantastic way to get a taste of this line.

Picket Fences

To enter to win this petite fat quarter bundle, I’d love if you went over to Moda Bakeshop and left me a comment on my quilt there.  Then come back here and leave me a comment that you left a comment there.

For those of who really want extra chances, I’d love any phone apps that you all can recommend. As you may have gathered from my previous post, I’m quite new to the smartphone world. I would love to know what I’m missing. So if you have a suggestion for one, that gives you an extra entry. Please leave it as a separate comment.

I know that not everyone has a fancy-dancy phone. So in lieu of an app recommendation, please feel free to share any other recommendations you have! lol I’ll let you all decide what that might be about. But let’s keep it clean. 😉 (Unless you’re Lynne and you’re going to suggest some Afternoon Delight).

  1. I recommend Pandora- my fav app!! Next in line would be the Joann's app- gives you lots of coupons you can use WITH the mailed coupons- the more coupons the merrier 🙂 Have fun!

  2. I don't know this for a fact as I don't own a smartphone, but I heard you get get a Joann Fabric app that gets you coupons on your phone. I think it's correct as I saw someone checking out in front of me flashing her phone for the clerk!

  3. I love the app, AroundMe. I can search for the closest store or restaurant if I'm having a particular craving. I also love Mary's idea about the Joann Fabric app. I'm getting it now!

  5. I don't own a smart phone myself, but a few months ago I read about a quilter's calculator app that sounded great. Best wishes with that new fangled contraption of yours.

  6. Now onto the whole phone issue. I had had a non-smart phone for years before switching to a Droid in June. I hate that I have to charge it every 1.5 days, but it really does have a lot of functionality. Nowadays, you have to pay for a quality phone, but amazon sells pretty up-to-date smart phones for one penny if you sign a new two year contract. My phone would have cost several hundred dollars at verizon, but I was psyched to get it for a penny. It already came with a good amount of apps. Of the ones I added myself, I especially like Cardio Trainer because it tracks the time, distance, etc. of your runs with GPS. I haven't found many quilting apps though.

  7. I have a fancy phone, but it's the work one, and they've banned downloads onto it – meanies! My neighbour at work has his own personal one (which he keeps trying ot persuade me to shell out for too!) and is hooked on Angry Birds, Twitter and lots of little gaming apps which you probably have no interest in whatsoever (neither do I incidentally, I just get no choice about listening to it ;o) )

  8. I don't have a fancy phone but my husband does- I really like the weather.com app for a quick check while traveling. We have also found being able to check in for airline flights by phone helpful.

  9. I'm not much into apps but really use the Transportation Page for Seattle to see how traffic is or isn't flowing. So I go to the browser, find the page I want and then instead of bookmarking the page I add it to the homescreen and can automatically call it up so I can see where traffic is backed up when headed to and from work:)

  10. I want a smart phone! It is starting to seem like the whole world has one, except me. LOL! I recommend to live life to the fullest and enjoy yourself. Cheesy, but still true. 🙂

  11. I LOVE your new quilt!! I left a comment on MBS, congrats! I have a question for you: I'm thinking of using this pattern for a quilt for my mother, but i would make it larger than crib size. how many more charms and "fence" fabric would you think I'd need for a lap sized quilt?

  12. @Jennifer D – It's a pretty easy pattern to enlarge. The current size is approximately 45" x 60" – which is great for a toddler bed. The rows finish at 4.5" wide and 2" wide…so just figure out how large a lap quilt you need and add up more rows to increase the length. To increase the width, you can easily just add charms across the top, but you may want to look at the proportions of your new size to see whether the fence should be the larger part. 😉 Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions!

  13. As for phone apps, I love Facebook and Words with Friends! I'm pretty busy with work and going to grad school full-time, so Words with Friends winds me down at the end of the day. 🙂

Oh — and Around Me is another really cool app! It uses your GPS location to determine the closest restaurants or gas stations or whatever!

And Flixster is awesome too! It uses your GPS location to show you what movies are showing near you. 🙂

  14. I left a comment on Moda too – and I have to say I am so envious you have an iphone…I'd be glued to it 100%….maybe that's why I stop myself from getting one. Great tutorial!

  15. awesome Ang! such a sweet pattern and the fabrics are perfect for it. wish you could cart it to the Summit since i can't pop by and see your projects any time i want now 🙁
