Today I’m happy to share that I have a block in Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks – Volume 5!
You’ve got to look for me in there…I’m all the way near the end. lol But I’m in there! #92 or 94 or something.
I broke into my Mendocino stash to create this pretty mermaid block paired with some Farmdale Blossoms and a Riley Blake dot. Oh I just love all of these fabrics together!! I really tried to get the mermaids to have some movement and feel like they were swimming in the strips.
The fabrics are the showcase in the block I put in the magazine, but I simplified the look by evening out the borders and creating each block in a just two tones.
The technique to make the blocks is just the same as the one show in Quiltmaker…but even easier with only the one print to worry about. And I LOVE the secondary pattern that shows up when you pair multiple blocks together. I have about 6 or so of these blocks made and I need to make more! This is a quilt that needs to happen in my world.
Patterns that read as solid like or monochromatic are perfect this kind of layout. Just solids would be amazing too. You get a great texture from the seams but it is still simple and very usable. Mitered and on pointe?! Perfect! Oh and this geometric pattern is very male friendly. I know we are all always on the lookout for a pattern the men in our lives would like….errr…tolerate….err…love!
Congratulations on having your block chosen! I can't wait to get my hands on volume 5! I have the other 4 issues and refer back to them all the time! I love any and all fabric so I don't really have a favorite!
Your block is so much fun with the materials you selected. My favorite fabric is any oriental especially Hoffman and Kona Bay – quickly learning to enjoy bali batiks also.
Mickey in TX
Amazing blocks, I love them. My favorite fabric right now is domestic bliss, a little late to the party, but I just love that line.
Love that block, current favorite is reunion.
Nice block design. Congratulations for having it chosen for the magazine. I really do not have a favorite line of fabric.
I like Sandhill by Kansas Trouble. Don't own it yet.
I love Sweetwater fabrics! Their new line Lucy's Crab Shack is really cute!
LOVELY!!! I don't have a fav line at the moment- I am loving text prints though 🙂 Although I am really looking forward to Marmalade this fall 😉
Just love your blocks! My favorite line right now is Sweetwatter's Fabric line, Lucy's Crab Shack. It is so cute you just have to smile.
I love the mermaid fabric block! Its so awesome! Congrats. My favorite line is Walk in the Woods by Moda. And anything with owls or hedgehogs 🙂 THanks for the chance to win!
Love your block, congrats. I like the way it does make a second pattern when pieced together. Right now I'm into Jo Morton fabric, but seems my interest changes often. Thanks
Congrats on being included, I love the Mendocino version :o)
At the moment I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for my Summersville bundle to arrive :o)
Love the All About Coffee line soon to be out.
I love fabrics in a weird way. I rarely use a line… i just go in the store and grab whats purty to me. Right now im on a mission to get as many dots as possible… Does that count?
Currently working with marbles a lot.
I love Ellen Luckett Baker's new 'Quilt Blocks' line
thanks for the givaway!
I love Sweetwater fabrics! Their new line Lucy's Crab Shack is really cute!
It puts a smile on my face.
Love your block – it looks simple but when put all together – gives a really great look. I, too, love the All About Coffee line coming out soon.
I LOVE your block! It is such a great block & I would love to make a quilt with it using Lotta Jansdotter's new fabric line Bella.
Love your blog and I really like the block you made. My favorite fabric right now is A Sticth in Color.
I love your block. Congrats on making it into the magazine! I am in love with flea market fancy right now.
Great block, I liked it best in the two tones. I like Rustling Leaves by Benatrex right now. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.

Your block is wonderful. I like the new Henry Glass fabrics.
Oh I am so in love with this! Right now my favorite line is hello luscious. I'm having a great time making a series of wheel blocks with it 🙂 thanks for a chance to win!
I notice that I tend to favor fabrics in the blue color family. I do not really have a favorite fabric line.
I like the 'coming soon' fabric collection Abigail by BJ Lantz for Quilting Treasures because I love the lime, blues, & browns together. Thanks for a great giveaway! 🙂
OK… long comment coming up LOL
I *love* the version with the mermaids… I could never do it though because I just don't have that eye for fabrics, but wow!!
So I am *thrilled* that you included the simpler version… If I weren't in 3 bees right now I would ask to be able to use it in a bee… I still may in the next few months LOL
Fabrics… I'm pretty in love with learning to not stick with one line, but mixing and matching (see above comment)… and I am learning to love colour and big prints… but it's a slow process :)But I wouldn't say no to the new Lotta line – the post-Echo one 🙂
Congrats on yet this new success… I love seeing this amazing upwards journey you have been on in the last little while 🙂
Love your block, especially in the 2 colorway with the secondary pattern. Fave fabric line of the moment is an older one. Word Play from Benartex.
Love both your examples of your block. Favorite fabric… I don't know that I have a favorite but I'm looking forward to Vanessa Christenson's new line.
I love the second version of this block. As for favorite fabric line…..can't say I have any one particular favorite–I love it all! I've been doing a lot of scrap quilts lately. I love the variety they offer.
I like the way your block looks together. I can't pick a favorite fabric line because unfortunately I love everything I see, but am usually drawn to 30's prints. I love reproduction fabrics.
My favorite book is usually the one I last read (Mudbound) and favorite fabric the one I just bought (Treasures & Tidbits). I love your mermaid block.
I am currently fixated on Kate Spain's Good Fortune.
I haven't seen a Kansas Troubles that isn't my favorite.
Cool block, thanks for the chance to win.

I have been looking for a block that would make the most of a hoarded Lily & Will jellyroll. I think that this is the one! Thank you.
I like it! My favorite fabric line right now is Curious Nature by Parson Gray. Thanks for the chance!
I love all Christmas fabrics and find it really hard to pick just one for a favorite. Congratulations on getting your block in Issue 5! Linda

I think this is a beautiful block, Angela!
Nice blocks. I don't usually go for a particular designer. If I like one piece in the store, I usually will try to add a couple more in the same tones, just so that a wallhanging can be made out of it. I often don't look to matchy matchy patterns. Don't like them too much
love the block angchappell@yahoo.com
Your block is one of my favorites I've seen! I'm loving so many fabric lines right now; Summersville, Ten Little Things, Peak Hour, Reunion top the list. Thanks for chance to win! (Email: marshudson at comcast dot net)

Your bloock is awesome…your points are so exact, pray for the rest of us! I'm in love with Moda's Independance Trail that is supposed to be released soon. Congrats & thanks for the giveaway.

Great block! I love how the extra squares form when the blocks are joined together. There are always so many neat new fabrics. I'm not sure I can pick just one. Maybe Vintage Modern or Independence Trail or Summerville or Mama Said Sew.
Thanks for a chance to win.
I love your block and the repeating pattern. I am really in to colors and have been getting different Kona's. Thank you.
