Resisting a New Addiction

So I did it. I bought a Pyrex bowl. I was just going to write that it was my first but I realized that I purchased a little blue bowl last year. I’m a sucker for the blue.

Resisting a New Addiction

I am NOT a knowledgeable person about Pyrex. I just know what I like. And I like blue and pretty scrolls. So when I saw this at a local antique mall, I decided to just buy it. No thrift store or estate sale deal here, but frankly I don’t have the time to search for that perfect deal all the time. I decided that it was worth the price for me because I would be willing to purchase a new bowl for my kitchen at that price. Yes, I know people score crazy finds for $3 or so…but I just have not seen that much pyrex here. But then again, I just started looking. 😉

Resisting a New Addiction

I’m resisting just “collecting” pyrex. There is so much out there and it is sooo functional. This bowl is just begging to be used. And we are using it every day. THAT makes me happy. I’m going to love the heck out of this thing. Save the collecting for the fabric. (Oops! Did I just admit that?! lol)

  1. It's so funny that you post this, because I came across a set of Pyrex at a garage sale this weekend and bought it and now I too and trying to resist the thought of just collecting! I like your idea, just get what is pretty and what you like. Hopefully that's not every piece I find!

  2. My mother had it and my grandmother and even my great mother… now I have it. I love the connection and memories. I dont collect it, I just buy what I love when I see it, and use the heck out of it! 🙂 Im partial to my great mothers pattern of pink gooseberries (if thats what they are called)

  3. Many, many years ago, Pyrex bowls were the go to thing for wedding/shower gifts. I got way too much! I can't believe people are collecting pieces that I gave to the Goodwill years ago! I doubt that was my bowl, but I donated a set of them a long time ago! (Also the avocado green ones).

  4. Resistance is futile. I have a stacking set with a solid red one like yours. Love it and use it daily. Wish Pyrex would reissue them.

  5. I love my pyrex. I use it every day. And when I find new pieces, I cannot resist. The only ones I buy are the ones with the fired in design. Because I put them in the dishwasher, the ones that are not will rub off. I had my first set when we were first married, and I still use the one or two bowls that have survived. Sorry that DianeY does not see them as a big asset in her kitchen.

  6. Big smiles here. I inherited both the set that my mother and my grandmother had, one blue and one pink. They are nearly indestructible. I love to use the largest ones for salads at potluck dinners. Enjoy your new-found hobby!

  7. I'm still using Pyrex bowls and bake ware that I received for shower presents in 1972. When Corning Ware was introduced, everyone thought Pyrex would fade away. I find them incredibly useful.

  8. I love your bowl!!! Recently I mentioned something about Pyrex to my mom, and the next thing I knew, she gave me a vintage set that I never even knew she had! Talk about "the big find." I posted about it on my blog, and I'm on the lookout for more. I hope I can find some turquoise with the scrolly lines like yours!

  9. The bowl is beautiful! I looked it up on the vintage pyrex pattern guide on pyrexlove.com; I think it is Scroll in blue. I just started collecting vintage pyrex too and LOVE it! The colors and patterns are eye catching like fabric. Plus, they are functional too.

  10. Love it!! I collect PYREX too. My favorite is the Bright Yellow Squares. Oh, to save the finish, color, etc…hand wash it.
