A Bit of the New House – Sewing Room

Well I’ve been giving you all some sneak peaks of the house since we’ve been here and been working on it, but I’ve finally got some spaces well enough together to share them. And I know that you all are most interested in the bathrooms…right?

what? no?

oh…you want to see the SEWING room….

ahhh….well I guess I can do that. 😉

Sewing room

There it is…that pretty new machine sitting on the desk that I had my husband paint to match my new shelves. Some minis strung up above (I think I stole that idea from over at Clover And Violet lol). There are scrap bins to the right and fun organization things on the shelf above.

My thread is back in place above the machine loosely organized by color with bobbins throughout.

But then there is the fabric…

Sewing room

I’m sooo happy I went with the blue for the cabinetry. That color never fails to lift my spirits! My husband calls this room “my happy place” and trust me that color has a ton to do with it!

Sewing room

There is some color organization going on but given that I didn’t put it in rainbow order, I see it as “loose”. Type A rearing it’s ugly head again! I’m working mainly at incorporating my Fat Quarters into my stash organization.

Sewing room

Precuts are neatly stored on a shelf way up high and give the room some eye candy. Delicious!

Sewing room

A slew of neutrals takes up part of one side, together with my copy of “Nancy Drew’s guide to Life” which every savvy girl must own. Oh and I finally framed my thank you print from Heather Ross…I have print #1 which is pretty fabulous.

Sewing room

And behind the closed doors at the base are shelves filled with more! The top shelves have containers with a different project stored away…which helps me keep things tidy…well…tidier. And the bottom shelf holds things like large yardage and home dec fabrics.

Sewing room

We don’t have the design wall in place yet. There are no window treatments in this room yet. I have a second machine set up on another wall and the closet is organized but FULL of supplies. The books are on a bookcase but I need to organize them. But I’m happy. Understatement.

This is a place where I can create. I know I can. I will. And it will be wonderful.

  1. Angela, I'll take your sewing room anytime. I mean ANYTIME! It looks gorgeous! I love the blue cabinetry with the matching sewing desk. The red Horizon looks really pretty against it 🙂 Congratulations and enjoy your new inspiring place!

  2. Oh¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡que bonita la habitación y cuantas telas¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡besos

  3. OMG I'm jealous again, haha!! You must surely be in heaven. on the shelf above the thread, I recognize the awesome mermaid and boat pincushion from the SLICED competition, but what are the 2 patchy things? they look cute, I just don't know what they are.I love how you put the mermaid in a chair!

  4. Love the new studio! My walls are a similar color and I agree it is a happy place, I have to laugh at the DS Quilts fabric and the rest of your stash-looks alot like whats on my shelves.

  5. This looks like a fantastic place to sew with all of the little details and organization that you've added to it! The precuts and the top shelf and just too irresistible. 🙂 I would have a hard time cutting up those gorgeous kona bundles! lol

  6. Wow, talk about gorgeous!!! And I absolutely love that cabinetry color. I saw a kitchen done in it once and LOOVED it. Though I don't know what that would do for resale, since not everyone would like it!

  7. Wonderful sewing room! I probably have as much fabric as you do, but yours is organized! If you are ever in southern Arizona, you simply must stop by and organize my sewing room!!

  8. Your room looks lovely! I like how you have your FQs nestled in with the fabric. That's a better solution than my current one. They're in a separate bin because they don't "look nice" on my comic book "mini bolts". But I'm always forgetting about them because they're not in plain view (hmm, maybe that makes me lazy…). But I can see now how they can actually look nice if I do it right. Thanks for the inspiration!

  9. Great fabric organization! Did you use comic book boards for your fabric? I'm thinking of switching to this but DREADING actually implementing it. I'm a bins gal right now but I can't see it all as nicely as you can. Great job!

  10. Blue is my favorite color and so are my DH eyes……They make me happy…Love your sewing room and I love your Nlur sewing table….Have fun and Thanks for sharing…..Judith, Texas

  11. Jennifer @ Ellison Lane Quilts

Love your blue shelves and loved seeing your sewing space. All that fabric is fabulous! I am sure you will be super creative and happy in that room. 🙂

  12. Angela – i'm offering some unsolicited advice about your knee lever. I have one too, and someone suggested I learn to use my left foot on the foot pedal so that I don't have to worry about accidentally pressing down on it as I use the knee lever (or shifting it off beforehand). It felt weird at first but honestly it only took one sewing session before I got used to it.

  13. so envious of your wall unit and it's organization. I have the space but have not organized it yet. I am looking for the perfect fabric storage piece of furniture

  14. What a lovely room. I think it would nake anyone happy. I kept eyeing up your rainbow of kona solid bundles – wanted to reach through the computer and pinch them 🙂
